Gonzalo Higuain has admitted that he wants to emulate Diego Maradona’s achievements at Napoli and win the Scudetto.

The Argentine striker has been in superb form since signing from Real Madrid in the summer, becoming an instant favourite with the fans at Stadio San Paolo.

And the forward has conceded that he wants to do what his idol did with the Partenopei.

“This is an important moment for me and for my career,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I’ve been playing at the highest level for eight years now.

“I feel good physically and feel great at this club, with these teammates.

“We want to win something and we believe that we can fight on three fronts. We know it’s going to be difficult but we genuinely believe we can do it.

“Until there is no mathematical chance we can win the League, we think we can do it. It’s going to be hard because Juve and Roma are such good teams, but we will not give up.

“I want to do what Maradona did – I want to win the World Cup and the League title with Napoli.

“He triumphed in Mexico in 1986 and then won the Scudetto with Napoli. If I could do that it would be a dream come true.”
