Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain has been taken to hospital for tests and given stitches after a nasty head injury during the 1-1 draw with Lecce.

The incident occurred during the final minutes of today’s Serie A stalemate at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Goalkeeper Gabriel jumped to punch away a corner and accidentally caught Higuain’s forehead with an elbow.

Pipita insisted on continuing the match, especially as Juve had already completed their substitutions, and was visibly irritated when treatment took a while to patch him up.

However, after the final whistle, the Argentina international crumpled to the ground with a dizzy spell.

He was stretchered off and taken into the dressing room to receive stitches.

“Gonzalo is having stitches, then they’ll decide whether to take him to the hospital. He is conscious, answering questions in a clear way,” coach Maurizio Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.
