Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain says he 'only plays to win' and praises Coach Maurizio Sarri: 'He's an honest man who likes beautiful football.'

The Argentinian was recently praised by President Aurelio De Laurentiis, ahead of Saturday night's huge clash against Juventus, for his winning mentality, and the player confirmed it from his own end.

“I don't think I can change from one day to the next,” Higuain told the Italian publication Undici. “I have a strong character, because I always want to win.

“If I sometimes react in certain ways, that's what it comes down to. I'm always playing to win.

“As a child I was already used to football and to the environment of the match. My highest ambition was to be a footballer.”

Higuain then discussed Coach Maurizio Sarri, who turned Napoli into this year's Serie A revelation.

“He highlights mostly my negative side, like my father does. He told me what he thought of me immediately, for the good and for the bad.

“After all, growing up means learning from one's mistakes. Sarri gave me all of his faith. I appreciate his honesty and the fact that he likes a beautiful brand of football.

“The city of Naples? I'm very happy here. I'm delighted with the affection that everyone's been showing me and I hope to make the most of the time I stay here.”
