The Argentina international had been considered out of action for this game after undergoing surgery to stabilise a broken bone in his hand on Monday, but made a lightning fast recovery.

“It was a difficult decision, but after talking to the medics and the Coach, the best option was to have the operation and be ready straight away,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“With every day, the hand felt better and the pain was less, so I was able to play in this very important match.”

After the goal, Higuain was accused of making a mocking gesture towards the Napoli bench.

“My gesture was for a teammate on the Juve bench, as they too deserve the victory and the celebration was for him.”

Before kick-off, he was jeered at every turn and jokingly urged them to be louder in their insults.

“As I have always said, I prefer to do my talking on the pitch. I leave idle chatter to others. As I said before, those who know me are aware that I’m not interested in talking to the microphones much. I am a football player and I like to talk on the pitch.”

Napoli boss Sarri has always defended Higuain for the transfer to Juventus and confirmed today he was against the jeers.

“My affection for Sarri goes beyond football. He made me a better player, I will always be grateful to him. I care about him a great deal as a person and a Coach, he is a fantastic Coach and I wish him all the best.

“We always said that when we leave football, we’ll still keep in touch. Who knows, I could even work with him again at another club. That would be wonderful.”
