The Argentine scored three times in the final half-hour of the Old Lady’s 7-0 demolition of Sassuolo to send his side to the top of Serie A.

And the forward believes his recent form is the result of hard work earlier in the season.

“Sooner or later the hat-trick had to come. I am happy and calm working,” Higuain told Italian television after the match at Juventus Stadium.

“When you work, the results come. When I wasn’t playing before I was still happy with the performances. I needed to work hard and now the fruit of it is showing.

“Now it is important to have five months on top form. We have taken home an important result and now we think about Friday.”

Juve’s next match is a trip to Florence to take on rivals Fiorentina, after which they resume their Champions League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur.
