The Argentine striker has found himself the subject of continued and increasing transfer links to Barca this summer.

Whilst the club recently issued an official denial, Spanish publications continue to assert that a deal is possible, just as rumours yesterday were that Higuain’s father met with a Barcelona director in Brazil.

Lionel Messi has also helped fuel reports in commenting that he would be ‘love to see’ his Argentina colleague with him at the Camp Nou.

However, Il Mattino report today that Higuain has been in telephone contact with the Vesuviani and denied any contact with the Catalans, whilst clarifying that his recent comments on a possible deal were ‘manipulated’.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta dello Sport report that President Aurelio De Laurentiis yesterday discussed the matter with Coach Rafa Benitez and they agreed that the 26-year-old is not to be sold this summer.

De Laurentiis’ position is believed to also include a willingness to re-negotiate Higuain’s contract to include a €70m buyout clause.

However, even the Gazzetta report that a bid of around €60m may be enough to tempt Napoli into considering a sale.
