Lazio will fight to stay in the upper echelons of the table, according to Hernanes, the team's Brazilian playmaker.

The Biancocelesti currently lie in second place, just three points behind Milan as the winter break approaches in Serie A.

"Our mentality is clear," he said. "We must think one game at a time and try to stay at the top for as long as possible.

"We'll see what our position is at the end of the season. We'll finish in a position that will make us happy."

Speaking ahead of Friday's clash with Italian champions Inter, Hernanes said: "Injuries aren't a problem for them. If one player is out another even better one takes his place.

"But we are strong. We are second in the table and we must fight to stay in this position," he concluded.
