The Curva Sud was draped in an enormous image that recreated Hateley’s derby goal for the club in 1984 before the Milan derby on Sunday.
The Rossoneri went on to win the match 3-0, and Hateley was touched by the moment before reflecting on the goal.
“The choreography was touching, I’d say almost shocking,” he said to MilanNews.

“The choreography was touching, I’d say almost shocking,” he said to MilanNews.
“It’s incredible that 30 years on people still remember that goal. It was great to see my face represented in the choreography.
“We were watching the pre-match in the studio at BeIn Sports (where Hateley is a pundit, ed) and I was surprised to see that image.
“My colleagues were talking and watching the pitch while I was left dazed and lost in that picture. When they realised it was me, they started talking about that goal.
“Thank you so much to the Curva Sud and to whoever had this idea.
“I keep two large photos of that goal on the wall at home, one in black and white and one in colour.
“That goal has a big place in career and I remember it like it was today: the great cross from Virdis, breaking away from Collovati and the leap from Zenga.
“It was one of the best and most important goals of my life, very important for me and above all for the team.
“It was a great joy for all of us and especially the fans after years that weren’t particularly happy.”
