“There’s still a lot to do, we have to have a winning mentality and play our game. There are still challenges ahead, and it’s all down to us and what we do on the pitch.
“The Europa League is not the Champions League, but it is still an important and prestigious goal.”
The Vesuviani’s form has improved dramatically since President Aurelio De Laurentiis put the squad into ritiro – essentially confining them to the training ground for 10 days.
However, the Slovakian midfielder says their upturn in form is merely a coincidence.
“Last year we did well without the ritiro, so I don’t think it’s that. We’ve played well in the last few games, but a season is 60 matches so there may be some dips.
“We’re pleased that the ritiro is over because it means we can be with our families. What we have to do is stay calm, and be aware of what we can do on the pitch.
“There’s no joy, we made an agreement with the Coach and the President [to end the ritiro], now we move forward.”
If the improvement is not down to the training camp, what is behind the improvement in form?
“I don’t know, let’s do another 10 day ritiro and we’ll see!” Hamsik laughed.
