Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik hopes to realise “my real dream” of the Scudetto next season but admits his time at the top is coming to an end.

Hamsik has spent the last 10 years with Napoli and is committed to the Partenopei for another three, and the Slovak – who turned 30 on Thursday – is desperate to end Juventus’ grip on Serie A before he retires.

“I don’t feel old at all. It’s as if I was still 20,” he told futbalsfz.sk.

“I can play at great levels for a few more years, like I did last season and with the same numbers.

“In terms of age, however, my career is winding down, but I still want to do something, I still want something from football: winning the League with Napoli, this is my real dream.

“We can do it, maybe this season we’ll really be good enough to fight for the Scudetto.

“When I retire, I’ll remember all the important wins with my clubs and national team, as well as my participation in events with Slovakia.

“My future? We’ll see if [Napoli and I] stay together or if it’s better for me to go back home.

“A player must stop playing when he feels like doing so. In my opinion, the maximum age for a player is 35, 36 years.

“I’m happy for what I have achieved, and over the next, few years, I wish the best for my family and health and hope to get some more success in football.”
