Francesco Guidolin was not happy with Udinese's performance at the Olimpico. “Quite frankly I expected something better.”

The 2-0 defeat to Roma was quite unlucky, as the Friulani hit the woodwork three times and had a last-minute German Denis goal incorrectly ruled offside.

“Quite frankly I expected something better from my team,” said the Coach.

“I know we are capable of so much more. Even if the game was very balanced and the deadlock broken by a technically wonderful goal, we still could've done more.”

The team improved after Alexis Sanchez came off the bench, as he was not 100 per cent fit after international duty with Chile.

“Did the midweek games influence our performance? That should not be an excuse and I'm not looking for alibis. It does have an effect, as some of our players don't get to train with us all week and arrive at the last minute.

“I am starting to realise that I have to be more wary of evaluating internationals after these games and not just those who crossed oceans.”

Guidolin was magnanimous in defeat when asked about the Denis goal incorrectly ruled offside.

“I cannot say anything, as we didn't lose because of that incident. Let's try to be honest and rational here.

“We hit the woodwork, but if we had taken the initiative the way I wanted, then we could've done better.”
