Fredy Guarin has explained why he gestured to jeering Inter fans as he was replaced in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina.

The Colombian international was taken off by boss Walter Mazzarri with his side 1-0 down to the Viola at the time.

As he ran off the pitch, the midfielder placed his index finger towards his temple and made a circling motion.

“It wasn’t a great moment for me when I left the pitch, but it will help me to become stronger on a personal level,” Guarin stated to Inter Channel.

“I care about the Inter fans. Everyone knows what I do every day for the good of the team,” he continued.

“I didn’t want to offend anyone with the gesture. I wanted to fire up the fans to help the team and not whistle every ball we lost.

“They need to be the twelfth man on the pitch for us.”

The Beneamata did turn the game around with two goals in the space of 11 minutes at the Stadio Meazza.

“We came up against a strong team that has played well in their recent games,” Guarin added.

“We showed a lot of patience and then had the determination and strength to find the winner after equalising.

“We showed courage to the end and believed, then bagged the victory with our play.”
