The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina looks forward with ‘great satisfaction’ to resume football tomorrow and will ask to eliminate the quarantine in due time.

The Coppa Italia is back on Friday and Saturday and the Federcalcio chief Gravina has worked non-stop to make sure Italian football can resume after having been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Let’s enjoy the resumption, knowing that we still have to file a few small restrictions imposed by the CTS,” he told elevensports.it. “There are still risks, we must manage them correctly.

“Tomorrow, football in Italy starts again, in line with what happened at European level. It’s a source of great satisfaction.

“We have avoided the wave of offences and exclusion from the international arena. It was not easy to achieve this goal, the objective conditions didn’t give us maximum serenity. We have experienced complicated and tense moments.”

The 66-year-old has confirmed he is encouraged by the latest data from the pandemic and will ask the CTS to remove the quarantine in due course.

“The epidemiological curve gives us hope, I’m not just saying this for football. If this trend continues, we will ask the Technical and Scientific Committee to ease some restrictions, eliminating the quarantine.

“Especially if you also want to reopen amateur sports.”

Gravina remains hopeful of seeing fans in the stands again but reveals ‘there are other priorities’ right now.

“We asked to be able to return to the world of entertainment that the public foresees. It’s not possible to hypothesise a number of people with the maximum guarantee in a stadium holding 60,000 people.

“We don’t want to accelerate this issue, there are other priorities now. We must ensure that the championship can be concluded and at the same time, if the virus allows us, have the possibility to let our spectators participate.

“It’s the fans that promote the effect of enthusiasm.”
