“We’ll see what our ambitions are as the season progresses, but it’s early days still,” the captain told Roma TV and Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s important to win and pick up points, because it’s all well and good to say we’re in the Champions League, but our main focus has to be Serie A and we can’t let anything slide.

“I believe this is a showdown for Champions League places with Roma and games like this will decide whether Atalanta challenge for a Europa League or Champions League spot. They are above all dangerous in attack.”

Luis Muriel is out with tonsillitis and Duvan Zapata is rested this evening.

“We have Shakhtar Donetsk coming up in the Champions League and need to balance out our efforts. The main difference from last season is that we now have five or six potential starters on the bench, and for Atalanta that is a huge amount.”
