In both legs the Viola allowed Spurs to tire themselves out in the first half, then struck after the break, securing a 3-1 aggregate victory.

“I am very, very happy because this is the kind of match I like,” Gomez told Mediaset Premium after a 2-0 win on the night.

“I am happy for the fans and for the city. The negative moments are behind us, I feel good and am playing well.

“We’re still in Europe and that is what counts. We play like a team and we do it very well. We must continue along this path, trying not to drop points the way we did against Torino.”

Fiorentina are becoming one of the favourites to lift the Europa League at the end of the season.

“Can we reach the Final? We’ve made a step forward and now await our next opponents, but we want to win that tie too.”
