The Nerazzurri were beaten 3-2 in Cologne last night, despite having taken the lead through Romelu Lukaku.

Godin scored the equaliser for 2-2 following a Luuk de Jong brace, but Diego Carlos saw his over-head kick deflected into the net by Lukaku for the late winner.

“An intense season comes to an end, one that was different because of everything that happened in the world, while we continue the fight to return to normality,” wrote Godin on Instagram.

“We would’ve liked to win and give our fans this triumph, but it was not possible. I hope you feel nonetheless proud of the work and effort we put in yesterday and throughout the season.

“This is just a slight pause in the journey. It’s a journey that this team has gone on to continue growing and achieving the objectives that a club of this history deserves.

“Now we’ll rest, recharge the batteries and return with even more hunger and enthusiasm.”
