Sebastian Giovinco acknowledges being at Toronto FC hurt his Italy chances, as “unfortunately it wasn’t enough to go to Euro 2016.”

The Atomic Ant was not picked for the Azzurri despite the dearth of reliable forwards.

“Why am I not in the Nazionale? I asked myself that too,” Giovinco told SportItalia.

“I think it’s down to the type of choice I made. I think that I proved I am in good shape, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to go to Euro 2016.

“These are choices that in the end can be positive or negative, depending on what point of view you take. I will certainly try to do my best to get back into the Nazionale.

“I think Antonio Conte has his reasons, some agree and some don’t. I haven’t actually spoken to Conte lately.”

Does Giovinco have plans for a return to Serie A in future?

“At the moment I am happy here, but it’s normal in football to never say never. I am enjoying myself, I’m in good shape both physically and psychologically, so I think that is the most important thing.”

He was also asked about his old club Juventus.

“I think they can win the Champions League, maybe next season or very soon. They have built a strong Juve, so the more time passes, the stronger they will get. I have no doubts on that.”
