“I’m very happy to be going back to the Franchi, where I will be able to see an old friend in Luca Toni again,” the centre-forward told Sky Sport Italia.
“I won a World Cup with him and I’m sure that he will still be very useful to Fiorentina after his move back there.”
The former Parma man struggled for goals towards the end of his Viola stint and at Genoa, but he has five in five for his new outfit. That has led to the possibility of an Azzurri recall.
“I last heard from Coach Cesare Prandelli well before Euro 2012,” he explained. “I’m now 30, but I’m not giving up on my Italy dream.
“It would also be nice to play for Italy alongside my Bologna teammate Alessandro Diamanti. He makes things easy for me.”
