Alberto Gilardino admits Palermo face “eight finals” between now and the end of the season.

The Rosanero fell into the relegation zone this weekend, though they remain level on points with Carpi, and the 2006 World Cup-winner promises they’ll fight for their Serie A lives.

“Palermo are fighting, and we have to do that until the end,” Gilardino told reporters at the opening of his new restaurant in Florence, a joint venture with Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti.

“There are eight games to go until the end of the season, and for us they will be eight finals.

“We have to stay united, safety is the goal for us and we absolutely want to achieve it, for the city and the special fans.

“On a personal level I feel good physically and mentally, I’m still really hungry and I still have a lot of desire.

“I hope to give my contribution to the team, with my goals too, to achieve safety which we really want, especially for our fans who always let us feel their passion.”
