Alberto Gilardino and Luca Antonelli are “very happy” to be in the Italy side against Argentina.

Both the Genoa teammates were called up by Coach Cesare Prandelli for the friendly match on August 14 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

It has been organised to honour Pope Francis and both squads will meet him in the Vatican the day before the game.

“I am doubly happy, as this means I will get to face one of the best national teams in the world and meet Pope Francis I. It’s fantastic!” said Gilardino.

Full-back Antonelli agreed this was a unique opportunity for the players.

“I am very happy with the call-up and the chance to meet the Pope on August 13.”
