Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo says he is expecting a ‘challenging’ reunion with former club Cagliari on Saturday.

Giampaolo coached Cagliari in two stints between 2006 and 2007, and Samp’s hosts this weekend are managed by Diego Lopez, who captained the Sardinians under the Coach.

“We must show that we deserve the position we’re in by giving worthy performances,” he said at a Press conference.

“We can’t play below our means. We’ll need the same intensity as we applied against Lazio. If the team play with that same desire, we can get a positive result.

“Away from home, we’re not performing like we do at Marassi, where the fans pull us through and push us to go beyond our limits.

“Lopez was a player of mine, he was my captain and a leader. I have an excellent relationship with him and I’ll gladly face him.

“Cagliari give the best of themselves at home, so it’ll be a challenging match. Strinic? He’s still a doubt. He’s back training with us, but he’s not at 100 percent.”
