Milan Coach Marco Giampaolo was impressed by Theo Hernandez in training, but “he doesn’t have a great reputation, so time will tell.”

The squad flew out to Boston to begin their International Champions Cup campaign today and the tactician spoke to Milan TV.

“I feel there has to be a natural selection at this level not just for the quality of players, but also their behaviour and their moral compass,” said Giampaolo.

The squad flew out to Boston to begin their International Champions Cup campaign today and the tactician spoke to Milan TV.

“I feel there has to be a natural selection at this level not just for the quality of players, but also their behaviour and their moral compass,” said Giampaolo.

“These first 10 days of training have gone beyond my expectations, working hard with enthusiasm and ambition. Time will tell, but I am confident. I am sure that I can give this team an identity, a brand, something recognisable, which is what a big club like Milan needs.”

The Coach had a particular word of praise, and warning, for former Real Madrid full-back Theo Hernandez.

“Theo doesn’t talk much and he works hard. I liked him. He doesn’t have a great reputation, he’s not an easy lad to deal with, but I have to say in these first 10 days he’s really worked his socks off, never talked back and did things right. I’m pleased.

“He’s been a revelation over these 10 days, but I know that only over time do you get to know people and their real qualities.”
