“The two-week break in January was unusual, but then it was unusual for everyone, so it’s not just our problem to deal with,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Fiorentina are in good shape and were on a run of positive results against strong teams. They have improved as the season went on and are now capable of battling it out with anyone, so we are to expect a difficult match.”

As their original meeting with Roma at Marassi was postponed due to weather warnings, by a curious twist of the fixture list, Samp will face Roma home and away next week.

“We must rediscover enthusiasm, confidence and the sharpness in our football. I want to see that joyful way of playing return to the team. I am not worried by a packed fixture list, but by the attitude of my own team.

“The defeat to Benevento was the real low point and where we simply got it wrong, but other than that, I haven’t seen any massive changes in performance.

“Samp need to play in order to get a result and against Benevento, at a certain stage, we stopped playing. If Samp don’t focus on playing good football, we become mediocre.”
