This was the Blucerchiati’s first match of the season, as the Week 1 fixture with Fiorentina was postponed to September 19 following the Ponte Morandi bridge collapse, which killed 43 people.

“Inevitably, we felt the pain of the tragedy every day and it was all through the city, every time we drive or travel near to the scene,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“All this was experienced with great dignity by the people of Genoa.”

Samp were beaten 1-0 at the Dacia Arena by an early Rodrigo De Paul goal for Udinese.

“In the first half, we suffered under their intensity, as they were sharp and we struggled to get a handle on them. Towards the end, I saw the Samp that I wanted, as we created and never simply threw the ball away.

“That gives me hope for the future. It’s a defeat that irritates me, but Udinese showed they are a very good team and Samp have potential to grow.”
