Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo says his side’s performance in the 2-0 win over Milan was ‘probably the best’ of his tenure.

The Blucerchiati put in a dominant display against the big-spending Rossoneri and were eventually rewarded with goals from Duvan Zapata and Ricky Alvarez.

“It was probably the best match Samp have played since I’ve been here,” Giampaolo reflected after victory at a raucous Marassi.

“The performance was very significant, considering Milan are a strong team. I am happy for everyone.

“I am looking for improvements, we are often written off.”

The Samp tactician added that the support of the home crowd pushed his team onto greater heights.

“Today, for 90 minutes, the team were extraordinary. The support helps, the people were pushing for it. Enthusiasm takes you to greater limits.

“It was a great performance by the boys.”

Giampaolo then prasied his front pairing of Zapata and Fabio Quagliarella, who helped extend Samp's fine start to the Serie A season.

“Fabio does things well. He knows how to break, he knows how to play short or long.

“Duvan has only been here for a short while but he is showing great willingness.”
