The Italian international enjoyed a good season for Sunderland last term, helping the Black Cats achieve Premier League safety.

In an interview conducted with Radio Mana, the 29-year-old also revealed his immense disappointment at having missed out on the Azzurri World Cup squad.

“I am happy in England,” he said. “It’s been a very good year from a professional point of view. I have discovered the Premier League, which I didn’t know much about before.

“I don’t know anything about [interest from] Roma, I read about it on the internet and I think my agent has been clear about it in these days. Roma is an important club and I think every player would be happy to play there.

“From what I saw of Roma last season, they were the team who played the best football in Italy, but they still need some important players in order to win.

“Garcia has done an extraordinary job this year.

“I would have wanted to be in Brazil. I was part of the group until a short time ago and it is a great dissatisfaction I am not in the 23.”
