Napoli’s team doctor says Faouzi Ghoulam could be called-up by “the end of September”, as they’re just waiting for “the final OK” from his surgeon.
The left-back missed most of last season with a cruciate ligament injury and then a broken kneecap, and he went under the knife again this summer.
He hasn’t played since November 2017, but he could soon be ready to join Carlo Ancelotti’s match day squad.

“Professor [Pierpaolo] Mariani has to give the final OK for him to be used,” explained Alfonso De Nicola on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“Faouzi is doing very well with his recovery, unlike what happened after the second injury. The problems he had were resolved with the surgery at the end of June and he’s close to a total recovery and to training with the team.
“After that he’ll have to reach the right condition and it will be up to the Coach to decide when to use him.
“If, when Mariani sees him in two days, he says the fracture is healed then he can train and he’ll give the OK.
“Then he needs to get in the right condition. We’ve even been holding him back, because he wants to be there as soon as he can.
“Ancelotti can’t wait to have him, but we’re trying to do things rationally. Let’s say the end of September for a call-up.”
It was also confirmed that Alex Meret and Amin Younes could be available by the end of this month.
