Roma coach José Mourinho urged Granit Xhaka to ‘get the jab’ after the Arsenal and Switzerland captain tested positive for COVID.

The Swiss football federation’s head of communications revealed earlier this week that Xhaka had declined to be vaccinated against COVID days before testing positive.

Roma coach José Mourinho, who had pushed to sign him at Roma this summer, sent a message to the 28-year-old on social media.

“Get the jab Granit and be safe,” Mourinho wrote on Instagram, commenting on the player’s latest post published on his account.

Xhaka missed Switzerland’s game against Greece on Wednesday and won’t be available for the World Cup Qualifying match against Italy in Basel tomorrow.

He came close to moving to Roma in the summer having agreed personal terms with the Giallorossi.

However, Roma and Arsenal could not manage to reach an agreement, so Xhaka remained at the Emirates Stadium where he also signed a contract extension until June 2024.
