The Giallorossi got back on track with a surprise 4-2 victory away to Serie A leaders Napoli and face Torino on Friday, brought forward to help prepare for the Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk.

“Complicated matches await us and we must be concentrated to the max,” Gerson told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is a sad week after the death of Davide Astori, but we still had to work hard in training. We want to pick up all three points against Torino.”

This is the first reunion for the two clubs since Toro surprisingly knocked Roma out of the Coppa Italia.

“These things can happen, we made too many mistakes and paid for that. It’s in the past, our mentality has changed and we will play a very different game.

“I am satisfied with my season so far, but I won’t rest on my laurels, as I can do better. I always train hard to be at my best and prove to the Coach that he can rely on me.

“In football you can feel strong, but all it takes is one bad game and people change their opinions completely.”

Gerson’s fellow Brazilian, goalkeeper Alisson Becker, has been praised by everyone in Italy and beyond.

“There’s nothing to say: he’s a phenomenon.”
