Genoa are unexpectedly closing in on a deal for redundant Milan winger Junior Messias, Gianluca Di Marzio reveals.

The Rossoneri have been hoping to sell the 32-year-old this summer and in recent weeks he was heavily linked with a move to Besiktas.

The Turkish side submitted an offer to Milan for Messias and were working on the terms of a deal, but the player wasn’t interested in the idea of heading to the Super Lig.

As reported by Di Marzio, Genoa are now on the verge of agreeing a deal with Milan for Messias, adding a useful reinforcement to Alberto Gilardino’s squad.

The 32-year-old could undergo his medicals with the Rossoblu as soon as tomorrow. The two clubs are now working to finalise the formula of the deal and no figures have been confirmed yet.

Messias joined Milan from Crotone in August 2021, initially arriving on a €2m loan deal before making a definitive transfer a year later for €5.5m. He scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 68 total appearances.
