Genoa President Enrico Preziosi admits Monaco are in talks with Alberto Gilardino and they have “a pact” with Milan for Francesco Acerbi.

“Gilardino is an important player. We spent a lot of money on him, but there is interest from Monaco. If that goes through, then we’ll focus on someone else,” said Preziosi.

“Will German Denis or Adrian Mutu replace him? No, neither of those players will join us. We gave Mattia Destro to Siena on loan with the option to buy half his contract. If we find a deal, he’ll return to us 100 per cent, otherwise Siena will become co-owners.”

Much has been said about Chievo defender Acerbi, who is co-owned with Genoa and strongly linked with Milan.

Earlier this month Preziosi had suggested Acerbi would “only see San Siro in a postcard,” but has now changed his tune.

“We haven’t yet reached an agreement with Chievo. If we do buy Acerbi out, then we already have a pact with Milan.

“Next season Ciro Immobile and Alexander Merkel will be playing with Genoa.”
