Genoa have plunged themselves back to within two points of the drop zone after a shock defeat to already-relegated Palermo.

The Grifone thought their job had been done with last week’s victory over Inter, but they were taught a lesson in professionalism by a Sicilian side playing only for pride.

It was a bizarre goal that made the difference, as Andrea Rispoli’s looping header was plucked out from under the bar by Eugenio Lamanna, but only after it had already crossed over – as confirmed by goal-line technology.
