Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has said that the club are on the verge of capturing ‘a big Italian player’, thought to be Catania’s Francesco Lodi.

The Grifone have been linked in recent transfer windows with the playmaker and more recently were thought to have once more re-entered into talks with Catania over a deal this summer.

“We’re close to a big Italian player that our fans will not expect, it will be a gift for my 10th year as President,” Preziosi teased to Sky Sport Italia this week.

“His role? I cannot say anything, but the deal is almost complete.”

Preziosi also commented on developing talks with Roma over a possible swap deal involving Alberto Gilardino and Marco Borriello.

“I had a meeting with [new Coach Fabio] Liverani and the sporting director [Daniele Delli Carri], we decided certain things and Gilardino is a very important player, just as Marco Borriello is.

“With the latter we are also linked in a personal relationship, Gilardino has not has not been successful at Genoa for many reasons, but he remains a great player.

“Now I do not know how things will evolve, but we believe that they will be resolved positively for both one and the other.”
