Serie A side Genoa have confirmed that they did make a bid to sign Alessio Cerci from Fiorentina last month.

The wide attacking player was linked with a January switch to Marassi, but the window closed without the move taking place.

“There was a possibility to take Cerci,” Rossoblu sporting director Stefano Capozucca told Radio Blu on Friday afternoon. “However, the deal wasn’t finalised.”

The former Roma player, 24, has struggled to replicate his form of last season at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this time around.

He’s scored three goals in 12 Serie A games so far.

There were also suggestions that the Marassi outfit were interested in Viola right-back Lorenzo De Silvestri.

“It’s not true,” the official added. “We didn’t offer Giandomenico Mesto in a swap deal for De Silvestri. We were happy with our options in that department.”
