Italy is at the epicentre of the virus outbreak in Europe, with over 4,000 deaths related to COVID-19.

Gazidis spoke to Italian news agency ANSA about the on-going pandemic.

“Football will return at the right time but not before this world emergency is resolved,” said Gazidis.

“The priority of Milan is and will always be the health and safety of our players and staff, of our local and global community, and above all the most vulnerable among us.

“When we get back on the field, I am convinced that football will also play an important role in the recovery of the nation, both from an economic and moral point of view of millions of people who love this sport.”

Serie A is hoping to return to action in early May, but at this stage it's unknown if that is theoretically possible.
