Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso expects this summer’s signings to have the same “desire” of his current squad.

The Rossoneri finished sixth in the season which has just ended, with the former midfielder replacing Vincenzo Montella in November and doing enough to earn a new contract.

“I like the idea of being able to do 10-12 days of pre-season at Milanello,” Gattuso told Milan TV as he looked ahead to next season.

“I like the idea of being able to do 10-12 days of pre-season at Milanello,” Gattuso told Milan TV as he looked ahead to next season.

“There are climbs, the forest… plenty of interesting things that can be done here. It’ll be important to put some fuel in our legs because that will be important over a long season.

“I think it’ll be important to work on various formations. We’ll learn the movements of a four-man defence to start with, but in some circumstances I think we can line-up with a three, as well as with a three or four man midfield.

“We have alternatives, and I think that’s important in modern football.

“Our strength? I think it was the group, the desire of the lads and their mentality. I think that’s what we need to start from next season.

“I hope everyone who arrives will have that mentality, because it’ll be crucial. I’ve said many times that an individual can win you a few games,  but it’s the team that makes you get to the end.

“We need to start from that mentality and those ideas.

“We have to raise the bar next season, and that starts with pre-season. I only know one way to raise the bar: to work, have desire, and never be satisfied.

“Then I expect more from myself and my staff because we have to be honest: we made some mistakes, whether those were evaluation, technical choices or tactics.

“We have to improve ourselves as well as the players.”
