The Milan legend has been sacked following the 2-1 loss at Bari on Tuesday night. The Rosanero, favourites for promotion, collected just seven points from six games under the summer arrival.
“It is with real and deep regret that I inform you that Gennaro Gattuso has been replaced from the post of head Coach of the first team,” read a statement from President Maurizio Zamparini.
“There is regret given the respect I have for Gattuso the man and his great work ethic.
“Unfortunately he and I, together, perhaps took too big a step in giving him his first experience as a Coach in a club and a place as demanding as Palermo.
“The results have proved us wrong.
“I have assigned Giuseppe Iachini the task of taking us back to Serie A, a Coach and a man who I know and I have appreciated since he was my captain at Venezia, who we took to the top flight.”
