Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has refused to discuss what his future holds. “In two months I’ll say what I really think…”

Gattuso has led Milan to the cusp of a return to the Champions League ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sampdoria in Serie A, but the Coach preferred to focus on how side overcame the ‘blow’ of their derby defeat to Inter.

“Today isn’t the club’s priority, neither am I thinking about my future or the two years I have left on my contract,” he said at a Press conference.

“I’m only thinking about achieving an objective that is crucial for the club, lads and my own growth.

“In two months I’ll say what I really think. For now I’m only focused on my work and bringing Milan back where they deserve to be.

“The derby was a blow, a defeat that burned, but we must look ahead. We’re in first place for our Scudetto.

“At the start of the season we said that the Champions League was our scudetto. There are 10 games left and we’re up there.

“I thought Inter were coming from a bad run of form, so I was the one who prepared for the game in a certain way.

“We tried to press a bit higher, but maybe I wasn’t good enough and the team were a bit low-cut

I made the mistake of presumption. I thought about doing something different, but now it’s important to understand where we went wrong and keep doing what we do best.

“We’ve suffered so much, it’s been two weeks of so much bitterness, but we trained well.”

Gattuso was then asked about the row between Franck Kessie and Lucas Biglia during the Derby della Madonnina.

“I met Kessie yesterday,” he explained.

“I don’t hold grudges. I’m not angry, there’s disappointment on my part but it’s finished now.

“My players know they can dribble with my heart, but respect is needed for everyone. The club acted impeccably.

“During my playing career, I was wrong more than once and I’ve always paid for it dearly. I’ve always shown my face and assumed my responsibilities, while the club have always let me feel their weight.”

Finally, the former Italy midfielder had his say on the Rossoneri’s plans to replace San Siro.

“San Siro is the heart. When you step foot here, you can smell the history.

“For me it was a dream to play there, but to be at the top, in modern football, something extra is needed and Juve have taught us that.

“It’s a great stadium where so many great games have been played, but we need to understand the needs of a club who want to go back to competing with teams who have stadiums, money, merchandising, better TV rights.

“It’s right that the club are thinking about doing something different.”
