Gennaro Gattuso admits Hakan Calhanoglu is “distraught” after his horror miss in Milan’s 0-0 Coppa Italia Semi-Final with Lazio.

Both sides had several chances to score at San Siro, but it’ll all go down to the second leg in Rome next month.

“The first half was played at a very low tempo and we struggled to get going,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“We did much better after the break. We’re happy, as Lazio are an excellent squad and very difficult to face. We knew it was going to be a battle for 95 minutes.

“The important thing was to keep a clean sheet, because our goals in the second leg will be worth double. Gigio Donnarumma performed a miracle save, otherwise we’d have gone a goal behind.”

Patrick Cutrone’s goal helped Milan beat Lazio 2-1 here in Serie A on Sunday, albeit with the aid of an arm, but the young striker had the best chance again once he came off the bench this evening.

It’s reported Cutrone went to apologise to Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi after the final whistle, having previously denied handling the ball into the box at the weekend.

“Cutrone is a striker who causes problems in the opposition box and we made life difficult for Lazio in the final 25 minutes with two forwards on the pitch.

“We have to improve our finishing, although admittedly we didn’t create much tonight. Calhanoglu was distraught in the locker room at his miss, as he wanted to score at all costs.”
