Reports in Britain are linking former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso with Scottish club Hamilton Academical.

The World Cup winner is currently unemployed after leaving OFI Crete in December, and had previously been linked with Rangers, who he represented during his playing career.

Today the Daily Mail reports that Gattuso has applied for the vacant managerial position at Scottish Premiership club Hamilton.

The Lanarkshire side are searching for a new manager after Alex Neil left to join English Championship side Nottingham Forest, after guiding the Accies to fifth in the Premiership after winning promotion last season.

The club’s vice-chairman refused to comment on the rumours, but did not deny that Gattuso had applied for the job.

“We would never divulge any applications or break confidentialities,” Ronnie MacDonald told the Mail.

“We are in a process and could possibly look at a different structure going forward, one that would suit everyone at the club.”
