Gennaro Gattuso will today rescind his Sion contract in order to become the new Coach of Palermo, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The former Milan midfielder has been chosen by Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini to lead the club in Serie B next season.

Zamparini is looking for a new Coach after Giuseppe Sannino requested to be released by the relegated outfit.

Gattuso’s agent Andrea D’Amico is understood to have met with Sion chief Christian Constantin in an effort to free his client.

Those talks are understood to have gone well and Gattuso should be released by the Swiss outfit.

Gattuso is set to be offered a one-year deal, with the option of a second, worth €400,000 a campaign at the Stadio Barbera.

“I can’t say anything right now,” Gattuso noted. “I’ll meet with the President and then a decision will be made.

“Anyhow, I know that there is great enthusiasm in Palermo and that is why I would like to join them.”

Gattuso, 35, left Milan last summer after over a decade with the Diavolo in order to continue his playing career.

He was converted into Sion’s player Coach for a period of the campaign, but with limited success. In 10 games, he won two, drew four and lost four.
