Gian Piero Gasperini admits Genoa had to defend their 1-1 draw at Milan after going down to 10 men.

“It is undoubtedly a point worth its weight in gold,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had to defend for most of the game, as is natural when going down to 10 men before half-time and unfortunately the match lost its spectacle too.

“It’s an important result, one earned above all with pride and determination. We had started fairly well and reacted to the opening goal, so with 11 men we could’ve without doubt caused more problems for Milan.

“The lads were marvellous in terms of effort, sacrifice and determination. We have some very young players, but they are growing and gaining in experience by playing in Serie A.”

Mattia Perin performed a series of stunning saves, including one on Mario Balotelli’s penalty, becoming only the second goalkeeper to deny SuperMario in his professional career.

“Mattia Perin has great reactions and I think his best quality is his courage in claiming the ball, something few goalkeepers have nowadays. He is very quick off the line and therefore helps the team a great deal in defence.”
