La Dea’s unbeaten run was stopped by Inter on the last day of the championship and Gasperini’s men ended the season at third in Serie A.

“The championship has been regular, all the teams played in the same conditions. It was different from the others, though,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“There’s always something you can do better. The 100 goals would have been exceptional, but 98 are also an incredible amount. We have done very good things.”

La Dea continue their Champions League adventure against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals and Gasperini admitted he’s not sure if it’s an advantage to have played nonstop.

“Many things will make the difference. The technical, physical and mental conditions. We have played many games and have spent a lot of energy, but now we have enough time to prepare in the best possible way,” he added.

“It’s impossible to know if it would have been better to play as much as we did or stand still, we will see it in Juve-Lyon too.”

The Orobici coach has claimed Atalanta are not looking past the big game against the French champions and only focus on qualifying for the semi-finals.

“At this moment, I dream of going through and playing a semi-final. Being in the quarter-finals is a huge achievement for us, we will do our best.

“If you go through, then we can think about the rest.”

The 62-year-old is sure PSG will have a ‘great desire’ after months without playing but insists Atalanta ‘have a chance’.

“Being inactive for a long time is a difficult subject to analyse. There may be a lack of condition or habit in the games. On the other hand, they will have a great desire to play.

“They’re a very talented team, among the candidates to win the Champions League. A lot depends on [Kylian] Mbappe, whether he will play or not. But we have a chance.”
