Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini saw “a very balanced encounter” in the 1-0 defeat to Napoli, but some issues with the offside technology.

A single goal from Dries Mertens decided the match at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo.

“It was our first game after the break and we didn’t have the same stamina as usual, weren’t very sharp in attack and it was a very balanced encounter. It wasn’t easy for anyone,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“It was our first game after the break and we didn’t have the same stamina as usual, weren’t very sharp in attack and it was a very balanced encounter. It wasn’t easy for anyone,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Gasperini was in the stands due to a touchline ban.

There was some confusion, because Mertens might’ve been inches offside on his goal, whereas Marek Hamsik had a late strike disallowed for an equally-tight offside call.

“I had thought that VAR was meant to check offside definitively, because it’s either offside or it isn’t. If even the technology isn’t sure, then we have issues.”
