Gian Piero Gasperini wasn’t happy with the refereeing and felt Genoa deserved more from a 3-2 defeat to Roma.

The Grifone had taken the lead, but a Francesco Totti free kick and Stephan El Shaarawy volley turned it around.

“The free kick for 2-2 was definitely not a foul,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“You can’t take tackles out of football, that is a crime. It was such a wonderful game with Roma who caused us problems, but in the second half we played better.

“When you play against such great teams it is normal they’re going to have a lot of chances. We did particularly well today and scored two excellent goals, going close to another.

“It hurts, not the result, but the interpretation of the referee. If that was a foul for the free kick, then I’d love to see what Daniele De Rossi’s studs-up tackle was.

“In the first half we were too deep and struggled to close on the Roma players. If you face Roma, it doesn’t matter how many players are behind the ball, but if you close them down early.

“We weren’t always precise enough to make the most of counter-attacks. Will Leonardo Pavoletti go to Euro 2016? I hope so, I am his sponsor.”

Will Gasperini be on the Italy bench next season?

“For now I hope Conte will be the Coach. We’ll all be with him for the Euros.”
