“I am worried about the table,” confessed Palermo boss Gasperini. “We haven’t picked up three points in a long time and with a couple of victories it would all be so much easier.

“This is our opportunity and if we achieve safety, it’ll be like winning the Scudetto. This is a very important game, as from here on in there’s no real room for mistakes.”

Gasp was fired in February and recalled 19 days later to replace Alberto Malesani, but the Sicilians are without a win since November.

They are only level with Siena because the Tuscans have a six-point penalty due to the betting scandal.

“It is certainly a difficult game and a decisive one, as the team that loses could be cut out of the race to stay in Serie A.

“Siena have put many teams under serious pressure, so we have to be wary. We wasted several chances against Torino last week and must be more effective in front of goal.”

Edgar Barreto misses out due to injury, joining long-term absentees Abel Hernandez and Andrea Mantovani.
