Gian Piero Gasperini saw Carpi’s comeback in first half stoppages as “a big surprise” for 10-man Genoa.

Leonardo Pavoletti had given Genoa the lead, but in a mad four minutes they had Luca Rizzo sent off, then conceded Antonio Di Gaudio and Lorenzo Lollo goals to go 2-1 down.

“Considering how we had started the game, Carpi’s comeback was a big surprise,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia after a 4-1 defeat.

“Considering how we had started the game, Carpi’s comeback was a big surprise,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia after a 4-1 defeat.

“I think the entire game changed around Izzo’s red card and in my view the second yellow was extremely severe. We went down to 10 men and this penalised us right before stoppages.

“The defeat hurts, because a victory would’ve propelled us up the table. We had prepared well for this game and now we need to make up for it.”

Gasperini was asked whether he will be at Genoa next season.

“I already clearly said my thoughts on this matter. I don’t want to repeat myself.”
