Gian Piero Gasperini and Atalanta have “regrets” after fumbling a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 with Borussia Dortmund in stoppages.

The result leaves the Europa League Round of 32 wide open, as the Orobici do have two away goals from Josip Ilicic.

“There are regrets, because we played very well for long periods of the game and conceded some avoidable goals,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

The result leaves the Europa League Round of 32 wide open, as the Orobici do have two away goals from Josip Ilicic.

“There are regrets, because we played very well for long periods of the game and conceded some avoidable goals,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“After Ilicic’s second goal we had the game in hand, so it hurts to lose in injury time. We had grown and improved over the course of the match, we had the opportunities to make an impact and we took them.

“The really disappointing thing is we threw away a game that we shouldn’t have lost. After cradling the dream of winning, we suffered this disappointment in the final minutes. The second leg will not be easy.”

Michy Batshuayi scored the two late goals to turn it around, but Gasperini revealed the Chelsea-owned striker almost went to Bergamo.

“Batshuayi had been proposed to us last year, because he wasn’t playing for Chelsea.”
