Rudi Garcia confirms Roma captain Francesco Totti has returned to training – “his return is expected in January”.

The 39-year-old has been out with a knee injury since the 5-1 win over Carpi in September, but returned to training with his teammates at Trigoria today.

“He trained with the group,” Garcia confirmed to Roma TV.

“When he’s more focused on the ball he’ll think less about the injury. His return is expected in January, but he’s improving and we hope he’ll be with us.”

Garcia also gave a preview of which players will be selected for tomorrow’s Coppa Italia tie with Spezia.

“[Morgan] De Sanctis will play. I have faith in this squad, it was put together for everyone to prove they’re on the right level.

“Tomorrow whoever is not tired or injured can play. [Seydou] Keita and Gervinho won’t be there.

“Lucas Digne and Kostas Manolas? They’re fine. We allowed Kostas to recuperate in the gym, he took a knock.

"Tomorrow everyone will be called, I want the best possible squad available and to show that we’re united to win the battle.”
