Rudi Garcia said Roma “started on two right feet” against CSKA Moscow and are confident for Manchester City.

This was their return to the Champions League after three years and they demolished the Russian title winners 5-1.

“It was a great performance, we won and got the three points. It is just a pity about the injuries, but Roma’s performance for 75 minutes was beautiful and efficient,” the Coach told Sport Mediaset.

“Astori has a sprained knee and Iturbe a muscular problem. We will have tests over the next few days and hope they are nothing too serious.”

Roma are now top of the group on goal difference, as Bayern Munich beat Manchester City 1-0 in stoppages with a Jerome Boateng strike.

“We knew that even if the result is important, CSKA are not the weakest team. This is why I want to underline our great performance. It seemed easy by the result, but wasn’t remotely easy beforehand,” insisted Garcia.

“When you start on home turf, it is fundamental to get the three points. We started on the right foot – maybe two right feet – and now we go to Manchester with more confidence.”

This is his first season in Italy challenging on three fronts, so how will his team handle it?

“We’ll see, as right now we have to concentrate 100 per cent on the next game with Cagliari. Fortunately we have a large enough squad to face every competition at our best and we want to win every game.”

There was some bad news, as there were clashes outside the stadium with reports the CSKA fans broke through a barrier to come into contact with Roma ultras.

There are two injured Russian fans, one with a minor stab wound and the other hit on the head by a bottle.

“Football must be a celebration, not a battle. If this happened then it is not normal and we have to throw out all those who do these things, even outside the stadium,” said Garcia.
